National Apprenticeship Week is a brilliant opportunity to recognise the value apprentices bring to businesses, and here at Dowrick Electrical, apprentices are very much critical to our success.
Investing in apprentices isn’t just about filling roles. It’s about developing people, building careers, and strengthening the future of our industry right here in Cornwall.

⚡ Growing the Next Generation of Electricians
Our industry relies on skilled, competent professionals — and that journey starts with quality training.
We’re proud to support our electrical apprentices, Warren and Mitch, who are now in their third year of training. Over the past few years, they’ve developed from learning the fundamentals of safe installations to playing an active role in delivering a range of projects.
Their apprenticeship isn’t just about passing exams. It’s about:
✅ Learning safe working practices
✅ Understanding regulations and compliance
✅ Developing problem-solving skills on live projects
With support from The Focus Training Group and Cornwall College, they’re gaining both hands-on experience and structured academic learning.
💬 Warren said:- “I am grateful for the opportunity to be a 3rd year apprentice with Dowrick Electrical. There are always many opportunities to learn and expand my skills and knowledge in all aspects of the electrical industry and its always lovely to be part of a great team in whom I can always rely on to point me in the right direction and provide positive feedback on ways I can improve.”
💬 Mitch added:- “I’ve really enjoyed my apprenticeship so far at Dowrick Electrical. It’s given me the opportunity to learn hands-on skills on site while also developing my knowledge at college. I feel like I’m progressing well and gaining real experience every week, which is helping me build my confidence in the trade and working towards becoming fully qualified.”
Everyone at Dowrick Electrical is incredibly proud of the progress they’ve made and the professionalism they show on site every day.
📊 Apprenticeships Beyond the Tools
Apprenticeships aren’t just for engineers.
Last week we welcomed Georgina, our new Business Administrator Apprentice, who has just joined the Dowrick Electrical team.
Behind every successful project is strong organisation, communication, and coordination. Georgina will be developing skills in:
📁 Project administration
📞 Customer communication
📅 Scheduling and coordination
📈 Business systems and processes
Bringing apprentices into the office team is just as important as training electricians on site. A strong business needs both technical expertise and operational excellence.
💬 Georgina commented:- “I am delighted to be starting my Business Level 3 Apprenticeship with Dowrick Electrical today. I look forward to developing my skills and knowledge within the business, and I appreciate the training and support provided by Focus Training Group as I begin my career in Business Administration.’We’re excited to support Georgina as she begins her career journey with us.”

🌍 Why Apprenticeships Matter
The electrical industry continues to evolve, from renewable technologies, such as Solar PV & Battery Storage to EV charging & smart systems. To keep pace, we must invest in people.
Apprenticeships have many beneficial factors, including:
Creating long-term career pathways
Developing loyal, skilled team members
Strengthening the local economy
Building confidence and independence in young people
For us, this isn’t a tick-box exercise. It’s part of building a sustainable, future-focused company.
🚀 A Personal Note from Our Operations Director, James Dowrick
“I genuinely believe apprenticeships are one of the most important investments you can make in any business.
I started my own career as an apprentice, aged 16, so I understand how valuable the right guidance, structure and opportunity can be. An apprenticeship is more than learning a skill, it’s about building confidence, discipline and pride in your work.
At Dowrick Electrical, we don’t just aim to train competent electricians or administrators. We aim to develop well-rounded professionals who represent our values, our vision and our commitment to quality.
To our current apprentices - Warren, Mitch and Georgina, we’re proud of you already. And to anyone considering an apprenticeship, if you’re willing to work hard, take responsibility and keep learning, there’s a fantastic career waiting for you and we welcome you to get in touch with our team.”💡
